DInA-Elektro - AR-Assistent

Development of an AR application for apprenticeships in the electrical trade

Training programmes in the fields of energy and building technology are constantly evolving. Teaching specialist skills is becoming a key factor in an increasingly complex and digitally networked world of work. Digitalisation has made work processes more complex, and increasing networking requires training to be adapted in order to provide future specialists with the necessary skills. This is exactly where augmented reality comes into focus.

Augmented Reality (AR) refers to the addition of computer-generated information to our real world. This can include visual representations such as the insertion of images or videos with additional computer-generated information or virtual objects. An example of this is the display of distance information for distance information for free kicks during a football broadcast.

The pioneering "AR Assistant" application is being used in the "DInA-Elektro" project. This technology is used specifically to provide an interactive and extremely effective learning experience for trainees specialising in electrical and building services engineering.

The application goes far beyond conventional training methods by expanding the trainee's perception of reality. The primary purpose is not only to convey traditional teaching content, but also to provide additional, contextualised information on components. This enables trainees to develop a deeper understanding of the application and function of individual components.

The "AR assistant" is multifunctional and can be used on AR or XR glasses as well as on tablets or smartphones. While trainees are working on real tasks, the AR assistant can display useful information in real time. In addition to the option described above of displaying details about a specific component, it is also possible, for example, to point out any safety risks. This creates an instructive environment in which trainees can gain practical experience while absorbing valuable knowledge.

Overall, the use of AR in the "DInA-Elektro" project emphasises the relevance of this technology for modern training. It enables an immersive and practical learning experience that optimally prepares trainees for the requirements of a constantly evolving world of work. The "AR Assistant" thus acts as a trailblazer for future-oriented electrical training that not only teaches specialised skills, but also promotes the ability to proactively solve problems and apply knowledge effectively. Today more than ever, the skilled trades are ready to tackle the challenges of the future.
